Clayton David Pinkerton

Clayton David Pinkerton (1931 - 1993) was active/lived in California.  Clayton Pinkerton is known for Modernist imagery, non objective.

Post War California artist, Clayton Pinkerton studied at Carmel Art Institute and the California College of Arts and Crafts, receiving his B.F.A. in 1952, and M.F.A. in 1953.  Pinkerton taught at The Richmond Art Center.

Biography from the Archives of askART

Working first in the Bay Area Figurative style, Clayton Pinkerton worked in a more stylized manner related to Pop Art in the 1960s and focused on social commentary themes.  In the 1970s, he did landscapes "in a cool, emotionally neutral style".

He studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts and the Harwood Foundation at the University of New Mexico.  From 1957 to 1958, he was a Fulbright Scholar, and from 1960 was a Professor of Fine Arts at the California College of Arts and Crafts.
